Better Work Stories

Greatest highlights

The introduction of NZ Police's Responsiveness to Māori Strategy in 1996, the appointment of 35 Iwi Liaison Officers and the establishment of Māori, Pacific and Ethnic Services.

Working with our people during the tangihanga of the Māori Queen Te Atarangikaahu.

Working in Waitangi as part of NZ Police's Iwi Liaison Team and seeing the approach our team had when working with Ma-ori Wardens (to reduce the mass disorder).

The greatest highlight would be when I was deployed on the 2004 hikoi involving 40,000+ people. To have no arrests was a wonderful experience - police and iwi working together.

Also, through my mahi I have been fortunate enough to be granted a Queen's Service Medal. I don't consider this to be a reflection of who I am, but more so, recognition of the work carried out by NZ Police.
