Understanding

The highlight of my career was leading NZ Police's involvement in the seabed and foreshore hikoi of 2004. I led the hikoi from the top of the North Island all the way down to Parliament in Wellington.

I met some fantastic people along the way and developed some relationships with communities that will last.

40,000 people took part in the hikoi and there wasn't one arrest. That kind of result doesn't just happen - it took a different type of approach that was based on understanding one another. Awesome.
