Possum

My partner and I were just dropping the victim of a domestic dispute off at the station, so she could arrange for a family member to pick her up. While we were en route to the station, an aggravated robbery came over the air. Other staff were at the scene by the time we became free, but one of the offenders had done a runner. We headed to the area, and while en route the Delta chopper arrived and started tracking. I was more familiar with the area than my partner, who was driving. As we got nearer, a site report came, stating the offender was last seen jumping a fence, and a direction of travel was given.

I told my partner to follow suit and turn into the area the offender was likely to be in. We pulled into the area, turned off our headlights and wound down the windows. No sooner had we done this than a male fitting the description came running around the corner towards us. I was out of the car before it had stopped, and when the headlights and my torchlight hit him, he looked like a stunned possum. Needless to say he was taken into custody immediately, and still had stolen property in his pockets. He wouldn't make any statement at the time, but he pleaded guilty early on at court, and got five years four months for his trouble.
