Better Work Stories

Paint & Panel

While on duty, I responded to a report of what appeared to be a minor traffic accident. Upon arrival, I discovered that the “traffic accident” had occurred at a paint and panel workshop and in fact, what had transpired was a person had walked in off the street, masqueraded as a customer and then jumped into a high powered V8 saloon vehicle to try and steal it. Due to a slippery floor, the thief was not able to gain traction and the workmen were able to block the vehicle in. The thief then tried to ram his way out of the workshop front entrance through the blocking vehicles and causing carnage everywhere.

The workmen, at great risk to themselves, were able to smash the driver’s window, pull the offender out and wrestle him to the floor until my arrival. The offender was incoherent and I subsequently discovered that his rash of offending was the resultant effect of being a “P” addict and trying to satisfy his habit by criminal offending.

The case wound its way through the court process and almost a year and a half later, he was convicted of all charges plus many more from other offending and sentenced to imprisonment.

Sometimes, good things do happen...
